Job Overview:

The Thai School Director is a pivotal leadership role, ensuring compliance with Thai educational standards and regulations, fostering excellence in Thai Language and Culture education, and overseeing operational and accreditation processes. The role also emphasizes strong external relations and stakeholder engagement to enhance the school's reputation and community connections.

This position reports directly to the Headmaster, with the dotted line to the Bursar.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Management

  1. Liaise with all relevant educational departments and agencies, including OPEC, ONESQA, MOE, other Thai Educational Institutes, local authorities, and government offices.

  2. Update the Headmaster on all relevant developments and directives.

  3. Provide translations of documents received, either in summary form or as a full translation, depending on the importance.
  4. Ensure any documentation required is completed and submitted.
  5. Lead Thai language and culture program and Thai university pathways

  6. Ensure the school curriculum meets all government expectations and is responsible for leading all Thai aspects of the curriculum for pupils and professional development for staff.

  7. Oversee the syllabus for Thai Language and Thai Culture, ensuring alignment with the Ministry of Education (MOE) standards.
  8. Oversee the Thai Language Department, developing a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
  9. Plan and oversee celebration days and events related to Thai culture.
  10. Knowledge and support for Thai post-school pathways, including understanding of the General Education Diploma (GED) route and TCAS application process.
  11. Accreditation, legal compliance and Government Relations

  12. Ensure adherence to Thai educational laws, including the Education Act for Private Schools and regulations from the Ministry of Education.

  13. Accreditation with Thai authorities/organizations (OPEC, ONESQA) and support the Headmaster on all other school accreditation. Serve as a key leader in the school accreditation process, managing all relevant stages from initiation to completion.
  14. Prepare and submit the annual School Self-Assessment Report to the Ministry of Education with accuracy and timeliness.
  15. Oversee documentation related to teacher licensing, pupil enrollment and institutional accreditation.
  16. Liaise with government agencies and attend relevant meetings to maintain compliance and foster positive relationships.
  17. Provide expert advice to the school leadership team on legal matters.
  18. Work with the Human Resources team to ensure legal competence and up-to-date knowledge of all immigration and visa-related matters.
  19. Be part of the PDPA Compliance Committee to oversee the school's data protection policy and its implementation to ensure compliance with data protection laws and best practices. Work closely with the PDPA Compliance Team (HR, IT and Legal) to ensure data protection measures are effectively implemented.
  20. Collaborate with other departments to support data protection initiatives and ensure compliance across the school.

Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations

  • Act as a key liaison with parents, addressing concerns and resolving conflicts professionally and empathetically. Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, pupils, staff and the wider community.
  • Awareness of the changing expectations of current and prospective families, developing a valuable understanding of the aspirations of families seeking an international education.
  • Maintain good relationships and act as a key representative with government officials and private education associations such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and International School Association of Thailand. Ensure the school complies with all legislative requirements and policy.
  • Liaise with the school's Marketing team to foster positive relationships with external organisations, vendors, and the local community to enhance the school's reputation and secure beneficial partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with the Admissions team to ensure all communication is appropriate and supportive of the School's aims. Seek to resolve admissions-related issues with current and prospective families effectively.
  • Work closely with the Finance team, seeking to resolve finance-related issues with current families.
  • Oversee Health and Safety matters within the school to ensure legal compliance and best practice.
  • Assist in overseeing the school registrar, ensuring that all school transcripts abide by Thai Ministry of Education regulations. Transcripts are to be released to families who have made full payments for the academic year in question.

Support for teaching staff and academic support staff

  • Provide guidance and support to address ad-hoc issues faced by new teachers each year, ensuring their smooth integration into the school community.
  • Provide advice and countersign documents related to teachers' licenses and teacher appointments/resignations.
  • Be able to discuss contractual matters with teachers, especially related to terms and conditions and application of benefits.
  • Engage with performance management systems and all policies related to the management of staff and staff contracts.

Child Protection

  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead Team and Child Protection Officers and liaise effectively with relevant local authorities.
  • Ensure Thai-speaking staff (academic and non-academic) fully understand the expectations of them with regards to Child Protection.

GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote high standards in all aspects of school life.
  • Actively support, and in collaboration with the school's leaders, the vision, ethos, culture, and policies of the school in a positive, purposeful, and professional manner.
  • Inspire and motivate pupils, teachers, and staff, prioritizing positive relationships.
  • Engage purposefully in the school's Professional Growth and Performance Management process.
  • Attend to such other duties to support the Headmaster as may, from time to time, be reasonably expected.

Qualifications

  • Have full working rights in Thailand.
  • Master's degree in Education, Education Leadership, or a related field with Professional School Administration license.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in educational leadership, preferably in an international school setting.
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience as a full-time teacher with a teaching license, and qualified to teach Thai and Thai Culture.
  • Strong knowledge of Thai curriculum frameworks and MOE regulations.
  • Proficiency in English and Thai. Knowledge of other languages is often advantageous.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
