Position Summary: The Teacher of Thai Studies (Junior) reports to the Head of Thai for Prep and is expected to teach a full timetable of 48 periods (55 minutes / 10 day cycle). This department of highly motivated and experienced staff teaches throughout the School and expectations are high. We are seeking a Thai teacher to help deliver the Early Years and Key Stage 1 curriculum, from Years EY1 to Year 2, with the willingness to, or experience of, teaching our Prep School children. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach a range of Thai to both native and non-native learners. Candidates should be willing to bring innovation, flexibility, passion and a love of Thai to an already thriving department.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate:

  • be a dedicated teacher who is capable of inspiring students
  • be passionate about the development of Thai language at Shrewsbury International School;
  • have knowledge of relevant areas of child development, as well as age-appropriate teaching strategies and resources
  • have an appreciation of linguistics and the typical progression of multilingual learners
  • have a full working knowledge of the Thai National Curriculum and ability and aspiration to attain high standards;
  • be confident in the management of behaviour for learning
  • be able to design lesson plans and select appropriate teaching techniques
  • adapt their classroom practice to meet the needs presented by differences in students' interests, motivations, preferences, knowledge, and abilities;
  • have an understanding of formative assessment strategies and use these within their practice
  • have a flexible approach to work within the school curriculum and structures;
  • have demonstrated an appreciation of the value of the extra-curricular dimension in developing the potential of students;
  • have excellent interpersonal skills and a positive approach to professional development
  • be internationally minded;
  • be a fully-qualified teacher able to provide two up-to-date professional referees (normally one will be from the current head) and a Police check at Enhanced Level.

  • Satisfactory Thai Police Criminal Record check

  • Satisfactory references
  • Verification of qualifications and work experience
  • Certificate or record of complete course of covid of an approved vaccine.
