Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

**Main purpose of job**:
This is an exciting role within the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) working at the cutting edge of trade promotion and digital diplomacy. The job uses data from across the department to support the creation of marketing and trade promotion activities, combining economic statistics with financial information and marketing data. The role champions a data-driven approach across the region to our activities, including achieving good value for money, generating leads, and improving sentiment of key stakeholders. The role is an advocate, an internal consultant and a partner to key units in the regional team including marketing, finance and operations.

The British Embassy Bangkok is a large diplomatic mission of around 140 staff delivering a dynamic and rapidly expanding programme of activity in support of the UK’s objectives including on prosperity, trade, security, open societies, consular services and law enforcement. This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team.

**Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**:

- Compile and oversee datasets that track UK government performance, including marketing campaigns data
- Champion the use of data in delivery campaigns, advising teams across the region on how data can improve their performance and supporting with the creation of dashboards and presentations to track success
- Create monthly marketing reports tracking expenditure against deliverables to help ensure good value for money on marketing spend
- Partner with the operations and finance team to create monthly performance reports for senior leadership in the APAC region
- Horizon-scan to spot emerging areas of under-performance against targets, and work with DBT APAC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) to address problem areas. Lead on all data for Quarterly Operations Forums - that is, discussions between DBT APAC’s senior leadership and market/sector leads
- Help prepare the COO for performance discussions with colleagues in DBT’s headquarters in the UK, providing evidence and robust defence of DBT APAC’s performance to date
- Help upskill regional colleagues in the use of data in communications and marketing, plus broader trade promotion campaigns and events
- Test and recommend new software to showcase data
- Create high specification PowerPoints and charts to showcase our performance
- Provide broader social media and communications support to the regional team where required including drafting quotes, social media posts and using simple design tools such as Canva to create branded assets
- Work with the COO to continue to develop and improve the data used by DBT in APAC to support enhanced performance and decision-making
- Be a regional champion for our management information tools, such as Data Hub, Digital Workspace and Data Workspace. You will proactively encourage their appropriate use, upskilling colleagues, sharing best practice and responding promptly to queries

In times of peak operation demand, work flexibly within the Section and within the Embassy.

All staff will be expected to make a corporate contribution to the smooth running of the British Embassy in Bangkok, either through a committee membership or another voluntary role.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Highly numerate
- The ability to create charts, design assets and presentations
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently and interact with stakeholders across different levels to explain design concepts
- Highly organised, ability to multitask and remain calm during times of pressure to deliver on tight deadlines

**Level of language required**: Fluent

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience of working with economic data or qualifications in economics/public policy
- Prior experience working in marketing and using tools such as PowerBI and Tableau
