Job Summary: The principal function of the Early Years Intervention Specialist is to provide support and intervention to students who require additional assistance with their academic progress; to identify and assess the individual needs of each student, develop and implement tailored strategies and programs to support pupils' progress, and monitor and evaluate their progress over time; to work closely the Lead Teacher and Teaching Fellow, administrators, parents, and stakeholders to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed. The Early Years Intervention Specialist will also collaborate with other professionals to ensure that students receive a comprehensive and coordinated approach to their education.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Academic Support

·       Provide and oversee a targeted intervention approach in Grades PK1-K to help students improve their reading and language acquisition skills based on their specific needs, abilities, and academic profiles in accordance with BISB Literacy Intervention Policy

(i.e. small group instruction, one-on-one academic support, etc.)

·       Collaborate with teachers to ensure that interventions are aligned with the pupils' individual academic goals and provide support/accommodations accordingly

·       Provide training and professional development for teachers to help them better support struggling readers and English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners

·       Evaluate and observe intervention techniques and provide feedback/support as needed

·       Work with other professionals, such as psychologists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists, to provide a comprehensive approach to supporting students with reading and language difficulties

·       Keep up to date with research-based best practices in reading and language development and incorporate these practices into student intervention plans

·       Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and improve intervention practices, differentiated instruction, and cross-curricular support for language development.

·       Create intervention materials/resources to be used for intervention instructional settings (i.e. one-on-one, small group, etc.)

·       Provide additional communication to parents/guardians about their child's progress and provide resources/strategies for supporting their child's reading/language development at home

·       Provide data and reporting on individual and cohort-wide intervention performance at each semester or as needed

·       Support with teaching substitutions as needed

·       Support academic enrichment activities such as academic competitions

Assessments & Progress Monitoring

·       Conducting assessments to identify students requiring additional reading and language development support. Programs include but are not limited to:

o   Edmentum

o   Fountas and Pinnell (F&P)

·       Monitor and track students' progress and adapt intervention strategies through extended support as needed to ensure they are making adequate progress

·       Lead grade level team meetings following data collection to discuss results and next steps (once per trimester)

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent command of the English language.
  • Intervention Experience: Proven experience in providing targeted Literacy and Language Acquisition support/intervention for Early Years students (Grades PK1-K).
  • Assessment Skills: Proficiency in conducting and utilizing specialized assessments (e.g., Fountas & Pinnell, Edmentum) for student identification, progress monitoring, and data reporting.
  • Collaboration & Training: Ability to effectively collaborate with lead teachers, parents, and external specialists, and to provide professional development/coaching to teaching staff.
