Requirements - Branch Manager
1. **Experience and Background**:
- **Retail or Coffee Shop Management Experience**: 2-5 years of experience in managing a café, restaurant, or other retail operations, preferably within the specialty coffee or food and beverage industry.
- **Team Management**: Experience leading small teams (10-20 staff) with a focus on training, motivating, and managing performance to deliver high-quality service.
- **Customer Service Focus**: Background in creating excellent customer experiences, as Blue Bottle emphasizes hospitality, which includes everything from product knowledge to personal interactions with customers.
2. **Skills**:
- **Leadership and Team Building**: The ability to hire, train, and develop staff members, creating a positive, productive working environment. The branch manager should foster teamwork and help employees grow within the company.
- **Operational Efficiency**: Proven ability to manage the day-to-day operations of a busy coffee shop, including scheduling, opening and closing procedures, cleanliness, and ensuring the store meets brand standards.
- **Inventory and Cost Management**: Familiarity with managing inventory levels, ordering supplies, and keeping track of daily sales, as well as controlling labor and operational costs to meet profitability targets.
- **Sales and Revenue Generation**: Focus on driving store performance by increasing sales, managing promotional activities, and ensuring the store meets its financial goals.
3. **Core Competencies**:
- **Communication**: Strong interpersonal skills to manage staff and customer interactions, as well as to liaise with senior management regarding store performance.
- **Problem Solving and Decision Making**: Ability to quickly resolve operational or customer issues while maintaining service quality and efficiency.
- **Attention to Detail**: Ensuring all aspects of the store meet The Summer Coffee Company's high standards—from product quality to cleanliness and presentation.
4. **Key Responsibilities**:
- **Team Leadership**: Managing a team of baristas and other staff, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and providing excellent service to customers.
- **Daily Operations**: Overseeing the smooth operation of the store, including ensuring equipment is maintained, the environment is welcoming, and products are made to Blue Bottle’s high standards.
- **Customer Experience**: Maintaining a focus on delivering a premium customer experience. This involves ensuring consistency in coffee preparation, fostering relationships with regular customers, and addressing customer feedback promptly.
- **Sales and Financial Reporting**: Tracking daily sales, managing cash handling, and ensuring the store meets its financial targets. Reporting these metrics to regional or senior management.
- **Inventory Management**: Keeping track of inventory levels, placing orders, and ensuring the store has the necessary supplies without overstocking or creating waste.
- **Staff Scheduling**: Managing labor schedules to ensure the store is adequately staffed, especially during peak hours, while controlling labor costs.
- **Compliance**: Ensuring the store complies with health and safety regulations, Blue Bottle’s quality standards, and any relevant local laws.
5. **Education**:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required, though a bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, or a related field can be advantageous.
6. **Cultural and Brand Fit**:
- **Passion for Coffee**: The Branch Manager must be passionate about specialty coffee, able to share knowledge with customers and staff alike, and ensure the store’s offerings meet The Summer Coffee Company’s exacting standards.
- **Commitment to Sustainability**: The Summer Coffee Company is focused on sustainability in its operations, so the Branch Manager would need to implement and maintain practices that align with the company’s values, such as reducing waste or supporting eco-friendly initiatives.
