Information Systems Assistant

The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy oriented research and analysis, normative support and technical assistance and capacity building, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.
This position is located in the IT Service Management (ITSM) Unit in the Information Management, Communications and Technology Section (IMCTS), Division of Administration. The incumbent reports to a Telecommunications Officer.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the direct supervision of the Telecommunications Officer and overall guidance of the Chief of IT Service Management (ITSM) Unit, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Participates in the planning, design, testing and implementation of new network infrastructure systems. Including routers, switches, Wi-Fi, Firewall and cloud network infrastructure.
- Configures and troubleshoots ESCAP's networking equipment and software to ensure optimal performance.
- Manages and troubleshoots Cisco Unified Communications Systems and MS Teams Direct Routing SBC.
- Monitors and troubleshoots network issues, and work with vendors and other IMCTS units to resolve issues.
- Creating and maintaining network documentation, such as network diagrams, inventory lists, and procedures.
- Participates in the development and implementation of UN-OICT networking and security policies.
- Maintains all switches /routers at recommended operating system and security patch levels.
- Monitors and troubleshoots network issues, and work with vendors and other IMCTS units to resolve problems.
- Assists in SMP (Seismic Mitigation Project) network connectivity-related activities
- Provides support for PACT (Physical Access Control Technology) operation and enhancements project
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
- Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience. University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunication Science, Mathematics, or related fields, is desirable.
Job - Specific Qualification
Certification in networking and security (CCNA, Network+, Security+) is desirable.
Certification in cloud technology (Azure, AWS) is desirable
Certification in Project Management (PRINCE2®, PMI/PMP) is desirable
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years (or five years if graduated with a first-level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in information systems, network and telecommunications systems administration and maintenance, technical writing or related area is required.
Experience in design and support Cisco router, switch and Wi-Fi is desirable.
Experience in Azure cloud technologies is desirable.
Experience in implementing and supporting MS Teams Telephony is desirable.
Experience working in the United Nations common system or other international organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Special Notice
Must have passed the United Nations Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.
