Responsibilities

  1. Instruction & Intervention

● Provide targeted literacy instruction and intervention for students performing below grade level in reading and writing.

● Deliver small-group or one-on-one support using evidence-based programs.

● Support students' development in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

  1. Curriculum Alignment & Literacy Programming

● Align instruction with English Language Arts standards.

● Design and implement school-wide literacy initiatives and assessments.

● Support teachers in applying balanced literacy approaches.

  1. Collaboration & Coaching

● Co-plan and co-teach with homeroom and ELD teachers to strengthen literacy instruction.

● Offer professional development sessions on literacy strategies, differentiation, formative assessment, and data-driven instruction.

● Develop shared resources and instructional materials for literacy teaching.

  1. Assessment & Data Analysis

● Administer, interpret, and track literacy assessments (e.g., MAP Growth Reading, WIDA F&P Running Records).

● Analyze student data to identify needs, monitor progress, and adjust interventions.

● Maintain clear documentation and contribute to student progress reports.

  1. Student Support & Inclusion

● Work with multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs to ensure inclusive literacy access.

● Collaborate with Learning Support teams for students with SEN or identified reading disabilities.

● Provide strategies to parents for supporting literacy at home.

  1. School Community & Culture

● Communicate effectively with families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

● Participate in school events, professional learning communities, and extracurricular literacy activities (e.g., reading clubs).

● Uphold child protection, safeguarding, and international school standards.

Qualifications

Required

● Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Literacy, or related field.

● Valid teaching certification (e.g., U.S. teaching license or equivalent).

● Experience teaching literacy using American curriculum standards.

● Strong understanding of reading development, literacy frameworks, and intervention models.

Preferred

● Master's in Literacy Education, Reading Specialist Certification.

● Experience in international or multicultural school settings.

● Familiarity with WIDA standards, MAP Growth.

Training in structured literacy or reading intervention programs.
