Responsibilities
- Library Program Leadership
● Develop and implement a comprehensive library program aligned with American curriculum standards.
● Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library, research, and digital literacy skills into units of study.
● Promote reading for pleasure, literacy engagement, and lifelong learning.
● Maintain a positive, student-centered library environment.
- Information & Digital Literacy Instruction
● Teach regularly scheduled library classes for PreK–Grade 6.
● Teach research skills, media literacy, digital citizenship, and ethical technology usage.
● Guide students in locating, evaluating, and using information responsibly.
- Library Collection Management
● Curate a balanced and diverse print and digital collection appropriate for an international school community.
● Conduct annual inventory, weeding, and catalog updates.
● Manage acquisitions, budgeting, vendor relations, and cataloging.
● Ensure inclusive representation: languages, cultures, identities, and global perspectives.
- Instructional Collaboration
● Work closely with teachers to support inquiry units, literacy goals, and cross-curricular projects.
● Provide resource recommendations that support classroom learning.
● Assist faculty in using databases, digital tools, and library instructional resources.
- Library Operations
● Oversee daily library operations, including circulation, scheduling, and library usage policies.
● Train and supervise library assistants, parent volunteers, and student helpers.
● Maintain safe, organized, and engaging learning spaces.
● Coordinate library events such as Book Week, author visits, book fairs, reading challenges, and family literacy programs.
- Technology & Digital Resources
● Support use of digital tools, research databases, and e-book platforms.
● Provide basic troubleshooting support for students and teachers in library-related technology.
● Collaborate with IT and instructional technology teams on digital literacy integration.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Required
● Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or related field.
● Teaching certification (Elementary Education or School Librarian/Library Media Specialist).
● Experience working with the American curriculum or international schools.
● Strong English proficiency.
● Competence with library management systems and digital learning platforms.
Preferred
● Master's degree in Library & Information Science.
● Experience in inquiry-based learning, literacy instruction, or IB PYP.
● Experience living or working internationally.
Familiarity with Follett Destiny etc.
