Assistant Vice President, Medical Underwriting

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary underwriter for jumbo/deviated cases, and high-value policies.
- Provide expert medical explanations to clients and distribution partners regarding declined or sub-standard premium cases, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
- Engage directly with clients and/or their representatives as needed to resolve concerns and uphold service excellence.
- Work closely with reinsurers to discuss and implement case mitigation strategies for high-value policies.
- Ensure risk assessment accuracy for jumbo ticket size cases by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide expert guidance on complex underwriting scenarios to maintain compliance and profitability.
- Partner with pricing/actuarial, distribution, product, and operations teams to tailor acceptance criteria and develop bespoke solutions for top-tier clients.
- Support the development and implementation of tailored campaigns and privileges for top clients, enhancing value and client experience.
- Act as a liaison between the underwriting function and bank partners, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.
- Contribute to the streamlining of approval processes for deviations and discounts, reducing turnaround times for high-value cases.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of underwriting guidelines and protocols, especially for HNW and affluent segments.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with regulatory and company standards.
- Provide training and guidance to distribution and sales teams on underwriting requirements and processes for HNW/affluent clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Medicine, Medical Technology, Nursing, or related fields.
- At least 10 years of experience in life insurance underwriting, with a strong track record in HNW/affluent segments.
- Deep technical knowledge of medical underwriting, risk assessment, and claims investigation.
- Experience handling complex, high-value, or deviated cases, including direct client engagement.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical and underwriting concepts to non-experts.
- Strong business development, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and lead process improvements.
- Leadership experience is a plus.
