To achieve these goals, IDS conducts evidence-based analytical research, capacity-building programme and demand-driven regional advisory services, and organizes intergovernmental policy dialogues for member States and partner organizations.
The internship at the ICT and Development Section is from three months and up to six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Prospected interns are supposed to work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member of the Section in the office to which they are assigned.
**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities depend on the individual’s background and the main work of the Section as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Information and data: Compile, process and analyze information and data on ICT for development in Asia-Pacific, including Countries with Special Needs (LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS), which may require econometric skills and economic modeling approaches.
- Programme and project: Support officers of the Section to implement programme and projects related to ICT, in Asia and the Pacific region.
- Website management: Support officers of the Section to prepare updates of the Section work to the ESCAP website.
- Organization of meeting: Support officers of the Section to organize inter-governmental meetings, which may include drafting memos, contacting meeting participants, creating spreadsheets, maintaining calendars, and other administrative tasks.
- Other substantive and administrative tasks: Carry out other tasks as required by the Section and the Division.

Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills.
Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be ‘clients’ and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) be enrolled in the final academic year (4th year) of the first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Work Experience
Applicants:
- are not required to have significant work experience for the internship;
- have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
- have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
