Job Introduction
BBC World Service is an international news provider, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on digital, TV and radio. It reaches a weekly audience of around 364 million around the world, helping them make sense of the world we live in.

Main Responsibilities
- The BBC News Vietnamese News Editor will lead a team of 10 language journalists in Bangkok and will report to an Executive News Editor.
- Responsible for building team spirit within permanent or temporary teams; ensuring the best use of individual skills. Encouraging team members to think about potential improvements.
- Sets team and individual objectives, as well as clear expectations about required performance levels, rewards success and addresses performance issues promptly and fairly, treats team members with respect.
- Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Responsible for ensuring safe working practices and the observance of BBC’s health and safety regulations, including completing risk assessments.
- In consultation with the senior leadership team, the News Editor will implement the overall strategy for BBC News Vietnamese in line with the objectives of the World Service.
- Maximise best editorial practice and collaboration between Content and Output areas within International Services and the wider News Division.
- Experience in a senior editor role with proven track record of successfully leading Vietnamese-speaking teams and the ability to develop and implement innovative approaches to news and current affairs content.
- Proven editorial judgement, able to make sound decisions promptly.
- A full command and up to date knowledge of written and spoken Vietnamese as first (or equivalent) language as well as complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
- A detailed understanding of current techniques and technology for newsgathering and production. An ability to use new technologies to create opportunities to enhance output and improve working practices.
- Ability to translate organization and department goals into action plans and lead the team to deliver on those goals.
- Demonstrable leadership in building diverse teams.
- Knowledge of operational challenges (if any) in carrying out impartial journalism in Thailand and ensuring to seek editorial or legal guidance if necessary.
