Automation & Control Systems Specialist

Location: Chonburi / Rayong area

Department: Plant Engineering

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Automation & Control Systems Specialist to join a leading manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and developing the site's automation and control systems to ensure high reliability and efficiency. You will lead a small team of technicians, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive improvement initiatives in collaboration with process and packing engineering teams.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for PLCs, HMIs, MCC panels, drives, and process instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control issues to reduce downtime and improve OEE.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety and plant standards.
  • Maintain automation program backups and version control (e.g. FactoryTalk AssetCenter or equivalent).

Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise and coach PCIS technicians on rotating shifts.
  • Oversee contractors and system integrators during maintenance and small-scale CAPEX projects.
  • Lead technical root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Projects & System Development

  • Support automation-related tasks during new equipment commissioning and plant start-up.
  • Design and execute small-scale automation improvement projects.
  • Work with regional teams on control system upgrades and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Manage OT system network, data servers, historian, and digitalization initiatives.

Smart Factory & Cybersecurity

  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives by ensuring connectivity of PLCs and smart devices.
  • Manage patching schedules, access control, and OT cybersecurity activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in automation, instrumentation, or control systems within a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience with:

  • PLCs and HMIs (preferably Allen-Bradley ControlLogix & PanelView).

  • Field devices: sensors, transmitters, control valves, load cells, etc.
  • Ethernet/IP communication networks, variable speed drives, and MCC systems.
  • Electrical schematics, P&ID interpretation, and control logic troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Familiar with OPC tags, digitalization systems, and OT cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of power distribution systems and electrical safety.
  • Basic understanding of utilities (HVAC, compressed air, water treatment) is an advantage.

  • Exposure to both indoor and outdoor plant areas, including multi-level structures.
  • Collaboration with multiple functions including engineering, IT, and production teams.
  • Continuous learning and adaptability to new automation technologies are essential.
