Supporting the children
:
The Child Care Assistant Will Be Responsible For
- Working with individual children under the guidance of class teachers;
- Supporting children in their wellbeing and safety
- Providing support for children in class, small targeted groups or in 1:1 situations;
- Motivating and encouraging children positively and consistently;
- Encouraging engagement and participation during lessons;
- Praising students and using classroom reward systems to develop their self esteem;
- Following the systems and documentation of the whole school behaviour policy where needed;
- Developing knowledge of the particular needs of the children and seek advice from class teacher as required;
- Actively developing their own professional practice through attendance and participation in support sessions (e.g. in service training, attendance at workshops, participation in the schools' DPC process);
- Attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children;
Supporting The Year Group/Class Teachers
The Child Care Assistant will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to facilitate rich learning activities in the classrooms;
- Attending team meetings where necessary;
- Informing relevant teachers of relevant learning, pastoral or academic issues regarding children (e.g. achievements, difficulties, behavioural issues etc);
- Assisting in the organising of relevant learning areas to maximise learning opportunities for children;
- Assisting specialist lessons where necessary;
- Ensuring that all children consistently demonstrate positive and appropriate behaviour at all times;
General Setting Up, Sorting,and Organising
- All pencils in shared area and classrooms area sharpened;
- All paper is restocked;
- Put in staples for the staplers;
- Sort Junk modelling- Plastic in one side, cardboard in the other. ( Throw away any that have paint on);
- Restock tape and glues in shared area and all Nursery and Reception classrooms;
- Milton/ sterilise plastic construction and maths resources;
- Put paper on clipboards;
- Cut some large pieces of paper into A4 (5x each colour);
- Use boxes created by Tas to set up the areas. (See Amy/Audrey TAS for more information);
- Check resources are in the correct trays;
- Tidy all surfaces;
- Ensure vines are attached to wires;
- Tidy and sort shelves and red shelves in Office;
- Tidy store room;
- Clean the outdoor mats
Supporting the School and representing the school within the community
:
The Child Care Assistant Will
- Maintain a full application of the principles laid down in school policy documentation - e.g. Code of Conduct, Dress Code, Staff Handbook etc.

- Able to command in English (verbal and written)
- Able to relate well with children, colleagues and expat staff
- A creative thinker and able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Proactive and positive thinking
- Strong communication skills
- Good self-management and time keeping skills
- Have an interest in how children learn and behave
- Be a responsible and trustworthy role model
- Respect and maintain confidentiality but have regard to the safeguarding protocols of information sharing where necessary

A Child Care Assistant will normally be expected to
:
- Greet children and help with their belongings
- Play with children in the continuous provision
- Set up according to the provision planning
- Liaise with the nurse, and take medication to the nurse
- Support with tidying
- Liase with catering staff (over snacks, lunch, birthday celebrations)
- Oversee children's eating habits
- be on duty each lunch time during the children's eating time
- Support teachers in making resources and displays
- Undertake any other duties that the Head of Primary or Head of Year may reasonably request;
- Support Teaching and Learning in class up to a 80% timetable;
- Attend briefings
