Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure Data Standards and Compliance:

  2. Maintain data standards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including adherence to the Data Protection Act and organizational policies.

  3. Database Installation and Configuration:

  4. Install, configure, and optimize database systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  5. Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

  6. Continuously monitor database health, resource utilization, and performance metrics.

  7. Identify and implement improvement plans to enhance database efficiency and scalability.

  8. Security, Backup, and Disaster Recovery:

  9. Manage database security protocols, ensuring secure access and data integrity.

  10. Develop, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.

  11. Collaboration and Communication:

  12. Work closely with IT project managers, database programmers, and multimedia developers to support project requirements.

  13. Communicate effectively with technical, applications, and operational teams to maintain database integrity and security.

  14. System Updates and Testing:

  15. Install and test new versions of database management systems (DBMS) to ensure compatibility and performance.

  16. User Needs and Access Management:

  17. Assess user requirements and manage user access, permissions, and privileges to ensure secure and efficient operations.

  18. Incident Management:

  19. Provide timely support for incident resolution, adhering to IT Service Level Agreements (SLA).

  20. Scripting and Automation:

  21. Develop and maintain basic shell scripts for database monitoring and automation tasks.

  22. Database Expertise:

    • Demonstrate experience with MS SQL and open-source databases, including installation, configuration, and management.

Preferred Skills and Technologies:

  • MS SQL Server & Always On Availability Groups (AG)
  • Oracle Database & DataGuard
  • PostgreSQL
  • MongoDB and NoSQL databases
  • DB2
  • Sybase and Informix
  • Open Source
  • AWS RDS
  • AWS DynamoDB
  • Mysql & Galera

Qualifications:

  • 3 years or more experience in database administrator
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technologies, or related fields
  • Proven both technical skills in Enterprise, Consulting, or System Integrator environments are plus. Familiarity with Cloud Database is also an advantage.
  • Work smart and able to standby for on-call support
