Company: Nord Anglia Education
St Andrews International School Bangkok is one of 88 schools in the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) family. We offer a British educational curriculum with an international perspective that begins in Nursery and leads up to IGCSE examinations in Year 11, and culminates with the International Baccalaureate Diploma after completing Year 13. We are an inclusive school that invites children from all backgrounds and abilities to participate in the educational offerings on our diverse campus.
Founded in 1997 on an attractive, conveniently located site, with excellent facilities and access to local transportation. Today we have more than 2,400 students over a Primary School and High School campus, representing some 68 nationalities ranging from Foundation Stage to Year 13. Our state-of-the-art High School campus (next to Ekkamai BTS) opened in August 2017 giving our students the benefit of world-class teaching and facilities.
As part of the NAE family of schools, we are delighted to be able to offer some unique collaborations with world-class establishments, including the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and UNICEF.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Spanish and French are popular and well-established subjects at St. Andrews, and we are seeking an experienced and dynamic teacher to join our Primary School Languages team. Class sizes are small and students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively and communicative approach to language learning through a wide range of engaging teaching techniques.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for both Spanish and French and contribute collaboratively to the continued development of the curriculum from Year 3 to Year 6. The successful candidate may also be required to teach some classes in High School to support the wider Languages team, and therefore experience teaching across both Primary and Secondary levels will be an advantage.
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) are taught from Year 3 onwards, with students choosing between French, Spanish, or Mandarin as their language of study. Students continue with their chosen language until the end of Year 9, when they may opt to pursue IGCSE. At Key Stage 5, all students study two Language or Literature subjects in the IB Diploma Programme, with Spanish and French offered at various levels to cater for both continuing and beginner students.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience teaching Spanish and French to Primary-aged students.
- Flexibility and the pedagogical range to also teach in High School settings when needed.
- A commitment to fostering enthusiasm for languages and intercultural understanding among young learners.
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, mild autism, and ADHD, in line with our inclusive ethos.
At St. Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school with an excellent reputation for supporting students with a range of educational needs. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting "all the needs of the individual learner", from those requiring additional support to those striving for the highest academic standards at IGCSE and IB.
Your job contracts may have additional responsibilities.
Learning, Development and Teaching
- Be responsible for the educational care and development of a class of children in accordance with the philosophy and aims of the School's curriculum.
- Employ a range of teaching methods appropriate to the age, stage, and abilities of the students, ensuring lessons are engaging and effective.
- Keep up to date with current educational practices, language teaching methodologies, and relevant theory.
- Be aware of individual student needs and plan differentiated activities that promote progress for all learners.
- Meet with parents to discuss children's progress and provide written reports in accordance with school policy.
- Participate in planning meetings and collaborate closely with the Languages team and Heads of Phase.
- Supervise and guide support staff as appropriate.
Professional Team Member
- Implement the School's assessment, recording, and reporting procedures effectively.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in line with school policies and best practice.
- Fulfil break and lunchtime duties as scheduled.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and continuity across year groups.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of cross-curricular and cultural activities that promote language learning.
- Participate in professional development and INSET sessions to enhance personal and departmental practice.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute actively to the wider life of the school.
- Support and implement school policies and adapt readily to new initiatives and developments.
The whole school community and environment:
- To make the school a welcoming and stimulating environment that will encourage children to actively participate in all that is required of them.
- To educate the children so that they become lively thinking and responsive individuals by providing differentiated experiences in all areas of the curriculum.
- To participate in extracurricular activities once a week.
- To support promotional activities associated with the advancement of the School.
- To be an ambassador for the School in the wider local and global community.
- To promote the House system within the school and organise one House activity per year.
