The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote inclusive economic, social and environmental development and support regional cooperation and integration in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat, is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.

The internship is located in the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section (CPS) of the Strategy and Programme Management Division (SPMD). The internship programme is for a duration of at least three months with the possibility for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division/section to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
The intern will assist the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section of the Strategy and Programme Management Division. Under the guidance of Professional Staff(s) in the section, his/her main duties will be related to (but not limited to) data collection, analysis and management in relation to the below tasks:
1. Assist in collecting and compiling/organizing data and perform descriptive statistical analysis on technical cooperation activities-related reporting, financial contributions and expenditures by thematic and budget sources groupings;
2. Conduct research and assist in the compilation and analysis of ESCAP success stories through technical cooperation projects with different partners;
3. Coordinate and work closely with colleagues in the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section, and the Planning and Budget Section, as well as colleagues in all divisions and offices across ESCAP in conducting research and data compilation;
4. Assist with conceptualizing and preparing the outline and structure of the Technical Cooperation Highlights publication and any other related information materials, briefs and presentations;
5. Organize and maintain up-to-date contact/stakeholder addresses, publication distribution lists and other relevant databases;
6. Participate in and contribute to other day-to-day operational tasks of the section, as appropriate.
7. Contribute to development and maintenance of monitoring tools and dashboards for donor profiling, visibility and outreach.

Education

a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Demonstrated ability in knowledge and data management, use of data management/analytics

tools such as Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Power BI.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
