Correspondent, Myanmar

กรงเทพมหานคร, Thailand Thomson Reuters Full time

Reuters is seeking an energetic and tenacious journalist with strong sources and great story ideas to join our Myanmar team as a correspondent.

Myanmar is at a delicate and decisive point in its history. Its formidable military has been pinned down by an assortment of armed groups, new and old.

Although cornered, the ruling junta retains enough firepower to inflict serious damage to its fragmented opponents, some of whom remain under the influence of regional powers like China.

In the balance lies the future of over 55 million people, a third of whom already require humanitarian assistance, and a crumbling economy that once showed great promise.

The ongoing chaos has also piled more misery on the minority Rohingya community, with many of their settlements destroyed in recent fighting and a new wave of refugees entering neighbouring Bangladesh, which is already home to over a million Rohingya.

The Myanmar correspondent will have the expertise and sources to delve into these varied but connected elements, reporting and writing exclusive and agenda-setting stories for a global audience.

As **Correspondent, Myanmar**, you will:

- Work alongside a small team of journalists and editors to closely monitor fast-moving developments and break news at speed.

- Coordinate with visuals colleagues and use graphics and other story-telling elements to maximize the utility of stories.
