Programme Management Officer

Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences and to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.
Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget).
Performs other related duties as required.

EducationAn advanced university degree (Master's or Doctorate, or equivalent) in forestry, political science, economics or a related fields is required.
A first-level degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in the specified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work ExperienceA minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible and interdisciplinary experience in the design and management of complex multi-country programmes is required.
Experience in policy-making in forests conservation/restoration and their sustainable use is required.
Work experience in active interact with government officials, NGOs and research institutions is required.
Experience in REDD+ finance and private sector investment in REDD+ is desirable.
Experience in social and environmental safeguards of REDD+ is desirable.
Work experience with International organizations in the field of forest conservation and management is desirable
Experience working within the Asia-Pacific region is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
