About the role:
The General Manager, Asia will provide the leadership to enable the company to achieve its goals, by promoting business profitability, monitoring performance, and effectively utilizing resources. The GM will lead the region’s product and operations functions including human resources, administrative services, operations, procurement and cost management, product development, safety measures, accounting, legal, policies and procedures, and driving the integration of the company’s values throughout the local operations infrastructure. The general manager is the champion of the G Adventures company culture and values in the region, representing Asia at the highest level, and creating awareness globally for what is happening in this region.
Accountabilities:
- Lead, manage and develop a team of regional operations managers and personnel as well as centralized administration services and accounting. Ensure that a high level of personal and professional development opportunities are present, and that employee engagement is a key focus of the offices.- Ensure efficiency, organization, and a high level of performance in all aspects of the company, with a strong focus on getting the right individuals in the right seats and ensuring that they are performing to expectation.- Develop strong leadership capabilities in managerial staff. Manage the annual performance reviews for their direct report and ensure that all reviews are undertaken for all indirect reporting staff.- Ensure G Adventures is the employer of choice for CEOs and tour staff in the region.- Report to the head office leadership team in regards to operational KPIs including: Passenger evaluation scores and red flags, COGS (cost of goods), Local revenue generation, Staff development and performance, Overhead budget management- Driving change and improvement of the region at all levels including reservation system, cost management, buying, customer service, staff growth opportunities etc. Must be able to take an idea, solution or plan and execute it.- Develop and manage key relationships and contracts with suppliers and work closely with the Asia Contract/Buyer to continually negotiate and reduce costs of goods on an ongoing basis while maintaining the service quality in the region..- Ensure tour and operations safety audits are carried out regularly, and that the ongoing safety of our passengers and staff is forefront in all operational decisions and procedures.- Develop and promote the G Adventures brand through the regional travel industry and regional business community.- Build a strong, friendly and transparent relationship between Aisa local operations and G Adventures Basecamp (head office Toronto) and other regional sales and operations offices; maintain a smooth flow of work between regional operations and head office.- Maintain a firm knowledge and understanding of legal corporate structures in countries of responsibility. Review and update corporate structure(s) to ensure efficiency and flexibility, and ensure that local legal and tax standards are met. Responsible for maintaining corporate structure as needs change and communicating with head office on changes and or required changes due to local or corporate changes.- Ensure that SLA agreement is in place and legal for the areas of responsibility and where local operations require it. Review of tax rates and process with head office to ensure the transfer agreement remains current with changing business patterns and local government legislation changes.- Ensure that proper accounting procedures and processes are being maintained and or implemented in the areas of responsibility.- Review of regular and timely reporting from the accounting offices for local operation managers and head office reporting.
