**Role Purpose**:

- To provide support and assistance to teaching staff and to learners inside the classroom in the delivery of deliver and promote quality teaching and effective learning of English.
- To provide ongoing support to learners and their parents outside of the classroom, as well as to colleagues and school staff (as required), contributing towards the smooth running of our programmes.
- To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission.

**Main accountabilities but not limited to the following**:

- Supervising young learners inside and outside the classroom:

- supporting the British Council instructor in ensuring that children behave appropriately and safely during lessons, and being able to assume supervision of the classroom on occasions when the instructor may need to leave the room;
- caring and being responsible for children before, between and after lessons, during break times and during time they spend in the British Council’s library;
- supervising children, ensuring they do not enter restricted areas and or cause disturbance or harm to themselves or others;
- Working with British Council instructors to support student learning:

- agreeing upon classroom roles with the instructor prior to each lesson;
- assisting with the preparation of resources and materials as required;
- assisting with the delivery of lessons such as classroom management, monitoring and feedback, and modelling use of language;
- in circumstances of unsuitable student behaviour, contacting the relevant parties and contributing to an incident log;
- supporting student learning by running clubs, remedial support, and Reading Challenge programme;
- Ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.
- Performing administrative functions as assigned.
- Assisting with promotional activities and school-related events and initiatives.

**Role specific knowledge and experience**

Essential
- Six months of experience of working with children

Desirable
- Early Years qualification
- Special Education Needs (SEN)

**Requirements**:

- Minimum with Undergraduate university degree or equivalent.
- Travel between schools may be required (and if so, will be compensated).
- Post holder may occasionally be required to work during evenings and weekends due to parents’ evenings and school events.
- During school breaks (e.g. March - May) the post holder may be required to work at a nearby British Council teaching centre.
