Data Center Shift Lead

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shift Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Lead the operations team during the shift to ensure proper execution of routine inspections, monitoring, and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct shift handovers and ensure proper documentation and reporting of all operational activities.
  • Monitor performance and provide guidance to technicians and engineers on shift.

2. Critical Infrastructure Operations

  • Monitor and control electrical systems (UPS, PDUs, switchgear), mechanical systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers), and fire safety systems.
  • Respond to alarms, abnormal conditions, or system faults in accordance with SOPs/EOPs.
  • Perform regular walkthroughs and inspections to ensure system health and cleanliness.

3. Incident & Change Management

  • Act as the first responder for any incident or emergency during the shift, including containment and initial diagnostics.
  • Escalate critical issues to the Operations Manager and follow up on resolution or temporary workarounds.
  • Support implementation of approved work orders, changes, or scheduled maintenance.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely logs, reports, and checklist records (e.g., power readings, temperature logs, system status).
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, access control, and operational standards (ISO 27001, TIA-942, Uptime Tier).
  • Report near-misses, hazards, and incidents per GSA's safety and incident reporting policies.

5. Vendor & Client Support

  • Coordinate with third-party contractors or vendors for maintenance activities, ensuring safety and work permit compliance.
  • Assist clients and internal teams with on-site access, remote hands, and basic troubleshooting support as needed.
  • Ensure all activities on-site adhere to security, EHS, and facility cleanliness standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering fields.
  • 3–5 years of experience in data center, critical facility, or industrial plant operations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and HVAC systems, UPS, generators, BMS, and fire systems.
  • Experience working in 24x7 rotating shifts.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Basic English proficiency for reporting and communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data center certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, or equivalent are a plus.
  • Experience working in Tier III or Tier IV environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, TIA-942, and safety protocols (e.g., Lockout-Tagout, EHS standards).
  • Able to work independently and lead small teams during high-pressure situations.
