Thailand University Counsellor

NIST is looking for an effective and knowledgeable university counsellor to join our team, with an initial focus on Thai universities. The ideal candidate will be highly knowledgeable about the Thai university admissions process, with a proven track record of providing expert advice and guidance to students and their families on Thai university pathways. The ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, including other university counsellors, classroom teachers, advisors, counsellors, learning support teachers, and the Secondary Leadership Team, is essential. A positive mindset, a committed approach, and a can-do attitude are highly desired. A willingness to learn about other university systems in the future would be an advantage. Strong proficiency in English and Thai is expected.

Responsibilities:

• Excellent references indicating a passion and knowledge for helping students with Thai university pathways.
• A willingness to develop a Thai university counselling programme for high school students .
• An ability to guide students and parents through the Thai university application process.
• Present information sessions, both daytime and evening, for parents of various year levels throughout the year (i.e., presentations, workshops and newsletters).
• Remain abreast of Thai university admission processes, trends, procedures and testing, and communicate this information in a timely manner to both students and parents.
• Meet with individual students to explore passions and possible pathways for universities in Thailand.
• Counsel, support, and provide assistance to students as they engage in the university research process.
• Help to create a university counselling space that encourages students to explore options and best fits.
• Guide students to develop the necessary portfolios to secure aspirational yet achievable university ambitions.
• Ensure guidance as students draft essays/personal statements to meet admission requirements/deadlines.
• Work closely with the other university counsellors to support students' balance expectations .
• Ensure quality control of teacher references and write high-quality letters of recommendation.
• Meet with students and their parents to discuss course choices to ensure informed decision-making.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family matters.
• Maintain close and positive relationships with Thai university admissions departments.
• Help to develop an excellent and easily accessible Thai university counselling website.
• Continue to develop the success of the school's university fair.
• Maintain current knowledge of developments and trends in the field of Thai university admissions.
• Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to personal and continuous professional growth.
• Ensuring university counselling processes and practices are highly appreciated by Thai families.
• Be approachable and supportive, but also ensure students meet expectations.
• Be prepared to support the school's Action Week and other activities.
• Perform duties in accordance with NIST's Professional and Child Safeguarding Codes of Conduct.
• Support the school community, professional standards, and trust.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Secondary Leadership Team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in any related field.
• At least 5 years of working experience as a School Counsellor.
• Excellent command of Thai and English in listening, speaking and writing.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Mature and pleasant personality.
• Well organised and able to complete all tasks either preemptively or in a timely manner.
• Be adaptable, and open to or a creator of, new ways of practice.
• Work hard and overcome challenges with positivity.
• Be an effective and positive department collaborator.
