Social policy work is of paramount importance to UNICEF, particularly in the East Asia and Pacific region, where diverse socio-economic landscapes pose unique challenges and opportunities for children's welfare. In addressing these challenges, UNICEF focuses on four main areas: social protection, public finance, child poverty, and local governance. These pillars form the foundation of our efforts to ensure that every child has access to basic services, protection, and opportunities for development, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Amidst this broad spectrum of social policy work, UNICEF has identified the need to make cities more conducive to the well-being and development of children. Urban areas are growing at an unprecedented rate, bringing both opportunities and challenges for children living in these environments. As such, the concept of Child-Friendly Cities has emerged as a critical area of focus. This initiative aims to harness urban development for the benefit of all citizens, especially children, making urban areas safer, more inclusive, and responsive to children's needs.

**How can you make a difference?**

**Purpose of assignment**

This internship offers a valuable opportunity for the intern to make a tangible contribution to social policy outcomes by assisting with the development of concrete products. It serves as a platform for exposure to the diverse aspects of UNICEF's social policy work, particularly in the East Asia and Pacific region, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the organization's efforts in these areas. The internship will support the overall functions of the Social Policy and Economic Analysis section, with a special focus on local governance and the Child-Friendly Cities initiatives in the region. At the beginning of the internship, a comprehensive work plan will be developed, alongside an agreement on formative objectives and the competencies expected to be gained, all with the support and, where possible, collaboration of the intern's academic institution.

**Activities**

1. Support in the Production and Organization of Publications, Regional Policy Dialogues, and Events:

- Assist in organizing and managing regional events, including the preparation of necessary materials and documents.
- Contribute to the development of materials and reports for stakeholders, bolstering advocacy efforts.
- Aid in preparing specific publications, conducting research, and compiling studies relevant to social policy.

2. Assistance in Knowledge Management for the Section:

- Support the collection, organization, and dissemination of knowledge within the section, enhancing the team’s ability to access and utilize critical information and insights.
- Help in analyzing social policy data and creating visual representations to effectively communicate findings and insights to a wide audience, including stakeholders and decision-makers.

3. Contribution to Other Social Policy Work as Necessary:

- Provide support across other areas of social policy work, as needed, ensuring a well-rounded internship experience that contributes to the overall outcomes of the social policy team.

**_Modality_**_: Fulltime_

The intern is required to travel to Bangkok to work on a full-time basis. There might be a possibility of official mission during which UNICEF will cover the cost related to the mission.

**_ Terms of the internship_**
- The monthly amount of internship stipend is USD 780. Interns must fund their travel and living expenses. Travel cost to Bangkok (return) can be provided per actual costs, up to a maximum of USD 1,000.
- Interns must have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station.
- If required to travel as part of their official function, costs incurred during official travel authorized by UNICEF shall be covered in accordance with UNICEF procedure on Duty Travel (DHR/PROCEDURE/2017/11/Rev.1) or as amended.
- Interns are covered under the UNICEF procedure on Malicious Acts Insurance Policy (DHR/PROCEDURE/2019/002) or as amended.
- Interns are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa, covering the entire period of their internship. If necessary, UNICEF will support the process by providing relevant documents such as the proof of internship.
