The Product Engineer’s role is to assist with the transition of CISCO’s silicon photonic products from the engineering and prototype phase to volume manufacturing in the most timely and robust fashion. The proven ability to assist with bringing opto-electronic components from design/prototype to volume manufacturing as well as a solid understanding of optical modules and coherent optical communication modules will be necessary to be successful in this role.
The Product Engineer will collaborate closely with the design engineering team on new product introduction, and with key suppliers and contract manufacturers on sustaining engineering and cost reduction, to expedite time to market and revenue ramp of high bit rate optical coherent transponders.
**Key Essential Functions**:
- Lead end to end yield, process, quality improvements to meet Cisco/Acacia targets of output, yield, scrap, Cpk, HPU, etc., includes wafer, OEMCM and Tunable lasers
- Analyze and correlate performance of key parameters spanning device to sub-system levels to optimize in-process and final test specifications.
- Create product trouble-shooting guides, support failure analysis, root cause identification and corrective action implementation of components, sub-systems and field failures.
- Work with quality team on RMA failure analysis and provide solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
- Work on complex products from design/prototype to volume manufacturing, lead volume manufacturing readiness and process capability check
- Process optimization design and NPI process development, as well as DFM and PFMEA guidance
- Support cost modelling, Lead cost reduction with CM cross function team, to meet Cisco/Acacia cost target
Other Duties
- Collaborate with CM, Quality and engineering teams
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications:
- MS or Bachelor in Optical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Material science or process control
- At least 6 years of experience as part of a process development team to bring opto-electronic modules into volume manufacturing
- Materials experience& expertise including fiber optics and photonic components, adhesives, ceramics, fibers, metals, fatigue
- Experience with statistical process control methods, including designing experiments and monitoring and controlling processes.
- Prior experience with hermetically sealed opto-electronic components, including all applicable processes
- Prior experience understanding of issues surrounding epoxies and out-gassing, seam sealing, damp heat, temperature cycling and optical fiber integrity test
- Process experience& expertise, including wire bonding, welding, evaporation and corrosion control
- Experience with tunable laser, OEMCM and advanced packaging concepts such as flip chip and non-hermetic packaging are preferred
- Great communication skills across originations, both within Cisco as well as contract manufactures
