Senior Audio Technician

**Job Summary**:
**Responsibilities**:
**Audio System Setup and Operation**:

- Install, configure, and operate audio systems, including microphones, speakers, mixing consoles, amplifiers, and recording equipment
- Conduct soundchecks and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure high-quality of audio quality
- Act as Stage Manager and/or Sound Engineer for events, depending on scale and complexity
- Collaborate positively with the Performance & Production Team, taking direction from the event coordinator
- Assist student performers with technical equipment as needed

**Equipment Maintenance and Repair**:

- Perform routine maintenance and testing of audio equipment to guarantee its functionality
- Undertake basic repairs, and escalate complex issues to external service providers as necessary
- Maintain a detailed inventory of audio equipment, tracking its status and usage

**Collaboration and Support**:

- Collaborate with the Audio Visual Coordinator and Audio Visual Team Leader to plan the technical aspects of upcoming events
- Collaborate closely with teachers and students for rehearsals, performances, concerts, and special events
- Respond promptly to technical assistance requests from teachers
- Provide in-depth training and mentorship to students on the use of music/audio equipment, preparing them to confidently support their own events.
- Advise on audio requirements and solutions for new projects, installations, and upgrades
- Maintain a supportive and collaborative atmosphere within the Audio Visual team and the school community

**Event Planning and Logistics**:

- Assist in the logístical planning of audio-related aspects of school events
- Coordinate audio equipment setup, takedown, and safe transport with facilities management staff, along with overall equipment needs,, setup timelines, and any necessary external support

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Be familiar with NIST child safeguarding policy
- Be aware of abuse risks to children
- Abide by the Code of Conduct
- Be vigilant
- Prevent abuse/protect children
- Report concerns (mandatory duty)
- Challenge poor practice/promote good practice

**Knowledge Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s Degree related to audio/visual/music

***Other Qualifications & Skill Requirements**:

- Proven experience in audio engineering, preferably in a live event or educational setting
- Solid understanding of audio principles, signal flow, and mixing techniques
- Proficient in the use of both digital and analog mixing consoles
- Basic audio equipment repairing skills (e.g. guitar cable)
- Basic musical instrument maintenance skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to quickly address technical challenges
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure and during live events
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience and adaptability when working with students, faculty, and external stakeholders
- Service-minded and positive attitude in a learning environment
- Basic communication of English / Good communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment
- Must have a grasp of performance aesthetics
- Be able to work overtime, working hours will be on “flexi-time” as the requirements of booking an use demand (not less than 8.5 hours per working day)
- Knowledge of computer software for audio recording, editing, and playback (e.g. DAWs, audio editing software)
- Experience with lighting is a plus
- A background in music or musical performance is advantageous
