Associate Statistician

Assists in designing, planning, coordinating and managing the collection, quality assessment, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical and geospatial data and metadata.
Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s).
Assists in training and technical support on data collection programmes, national data systems and other related fields.
Assists in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
Assists in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings.
Guides, trains and supervises general service and professional staff in the function.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EducationA first-level university degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required.
Job - Specific QualificationAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics or related field is desirable.
Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, finance, accounting or related area, or the successful completion of the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP) is required.
Experience in microdata analysis and data visualization is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
